As much as Peter hated flying, he loved going to the airport when it meant picking up someone he loved. His family was returning from their vacation in Spain and Peter could barely keep still while he waited in the international arrivals lounge of Heathrow airport.

Peter's family was feeling the doldrums of the After-Christmas Blues, but it did help to know that they would be jetting off to Valencia in the early hours of the morning. Lydia entered her parents' room just in time to see her father bend over in a fit of coughing, which looked like it was rather uncomfortable. She leaned against the wall with a worried look on her face while Peter proceeded to cough so hard it sounded like he was going to lose a lung.

Yesterday had been Peter's birthday. And yesterday, Peter had just barely saved his son Thomas from being run over by a lorry, which hadn't made for the happiest of birthdays. Considering the outcome, however, it was better than the one on which he had discovered he had a fatal brain tumour.

When Aly walked through the door, little Thomas in her arms, she was greeted by Peter who was leaning against the wall with a rose in his teeth and a sly expression on his face. Aly's return home had been quite exhausting, but waking up in Peter's arms had made everything worth it. Despite a full night of sleep, Aly had still been tired, so Peter had let her sleep in, rising himself to send the kids off to school before watching over little Thomas and Lauren.

Life in the Kemp household had not been entirely pleasant of late. Peter was mourning the loss of his best friend, and he was doing his best to work through it to be there for his family. Peter had slept through Deirdre's 20th birthday. He hated that he hadn't been there for her since he knew how much he meant to Deirdre, but it hurt a hell of a lot more that he had been asleep for Rasputina's first birthday.
